FAQ: Import fees
Is your hardware shipment stuck at customs? Is UPS or DHL contacting you to pay a fee? What fee do I need to pay in addition to the invoice?
Why the fee?
Our products are shipped exclusively from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This means that some shipments are liable for local taxes, duties, and import fees. These may include VAT, GST, HST, handling and broker fees, and other region-specific fees, depending on your location.
Why was this not charged in the invoice? Who am I paying?
These fees are only determined once the shipment enters the destination country/region. Due to the fees only being determined upon delivery and them varying greatly based on destination, the fees are directly billed to you by our broker, UPS or DHL. They are acting upon the law of the destination country and pass the charged fees on to the collector of the tax, for example the national tax office, customs office, and local authorities in the case of state/province taxes. In addition, UPS and DHL charge a broker fee. The broker fee is around 12,50EUR (14USD, 20CAD/AUD).
Growficient only charges you for the hardware itself and the shipping fee we pay UPS/DHL for sending the hardware to you.
Why was I not informed?
This information is detailed in the contract you signed under the list of products. The following information is presented:
Shipping costs will be determined after the hardware components are finalized. They will be based on the actual UPS or DHL costs and exclude any VAT/GST and import duties (if applicable).
What happens if I don't pay?
The hardware is either returned to Growficient for an additional cost or disposed entirely. Growficient cannot influence if, when, and how this occurs. We implore you to promptly contact support@growficient.com if you have any questions or concerns about the payment of these fees. In general, the window to make the payment is 2 weeks. This varies based on the destination country.
