Growboard 2.0: Changelog
This article gives a detailed overview of the main changes in the new version of the Growboard (launched per 22 February 2024)
Improved performance
We have rebuilt and optimized the entire growboard from the ground up.
- This means that not only it will be a lot easier to implement new features from now on, but also tremendously increase the speed of the Growboard itself.
- Especially when looking at graphs with a lot of data points, the data is shown much faster. This allows you to show bigger date trajectories, but also switch between periods, sensors, compartments a lot faster.
UI Changes
A totally new Growboard also means a new look and feel!
- We have updated our styling with a new color palette and font. We want you to have more control, and make it faster to see your crucial data whenever you need it.
- That's why we have updated all our menus and templates to create a more consistent look and feel. This will help you understand and operate the software easier, no matter the menu you are in.
- The new UI is also more mobile friendly. All graphs and options are now more accessible, allowing you to look at your data on the fly. This will help you notice and react faster to the current situation, and help prevent large irrigation problems from occurring.
Improved Graph usage and functionality
Thanks to the great amount of feedback we have received from our users, we have also made a lot of very useful changes in the graphs to help improve usage, speed and ease when using the graphs to analyze your data.
- We have ordered the legend to make sure all related items are shown together.
- We have also connected calculations values (for example Plant Activity) with their corresponding measurements.
- Not only does this help you find the related data easier, but it also allows you to quickly disable and enable all connected lines in one click. For example, if you deselect “Irrigation Valve 1”, all corresponding lines related to “Irrigation Valve 1” (for example Plant Activity or Start Time) will also be deselected. Furthermore, if you select 1 measurement line with the CTRL or CMD button, all other lines (besides the connected one) will be deselected/selected. This will allow you to quickly turn on and off all unnecessary data, giving you a lot clearer insight in your graphs and data.
- We have also made the legend selection persistent regardless of changes in the graph. This means that a refresh of the page, of changing measurement types (for example from Water Content to EC), will no longer reset your selection. This allows you to quickly see different information without the need for excessive clicking/selecting.
- We have updated our breadcrumbs within the graphs. These will allow you to quickly navigate to upper location levels from within the graphs.
- The URL now contains all settings of the graph. This means it will be a lot easier to share graphs (including their selections) with others or make bookmarks of them. For example, you can make a bookmark with param lastDays, to quickly see a graph of the X days everytime the bookmark is opened.
- We have also added a small arrow in the bottom of the graph, to quickly shift the whole graph one day back or forward in time. This makes analyzing your data over time a lot easier, without having to open the date picker every time.
- The 'date picker' in the graph has been updated slightly to make selection of begin and end dates easier.
- It is now only possible to make a selection of up to 3 months, to make sure the graphs still perform well.
- As before, you can open your graphs from the Growboard within a new tab. We have added this option within the graph itself, to quickly save and show the current graph in another tab.
- Finally we added an Export functionality within the Graph options menu to export all data that is currently shown in the Graphs. It is possible to export data of up to 3 months, and all filtering within the graph is reflected in the export. That means that deselected lines will not be exported.
Improved user feedback
- Another way to make usage of the Growboard easier for you, is via clearer feedback. You will now be better informed of what is happening (for example a loading page), or receive clearer error messages if something goes wrong.
- We have designed our UI in such a way that it will guide you in the usage, and prevent you from making mistakes by clearer descriptions, help boxes and settings.
Heatmap
- The time that is shown in the Heatmap, now uses the timezone of the location itself and not the user.
- We have added breadcrumbs to the Heatmap page making it very easy to navigate to upper location levels without leaving the page.
- You can also open the Heatmap in a separate tab, as was already the case with a regular graph. But even better, the heatmap settings are now saved within the url. This allows you to refresh, bookmark or share the page and still keep all previously selected options.
Threshold menu
We have slightly fine tuned the Threshold menu.
- The timezone of the location is now used to display the time.
- We have also added safety checks to prevent wrong input. It is for example no longer possible to increase the max threshold above 100% or below 0%. But more importantly, the max threshold can no longer be placed below the minimum threshold to prevent errors.
Notifications
We have also completely redesigned the notification menu.
- The notification window has a new look and feel.
- It is now possible to filter on all notification types, making it a lot easier to find and read the most important messages.
- Since the Growboard provides “foreground notifications” we can now push notification within your browser. This gives you real time insight in your situation, because you directly get insight in any thresholds that are being breached.
- It is now also possible to remove or mark notifications as read, to help make the overview a lot clearer.
Translations
- We have also taken this opportunity to update our translations for foreign languages.
- We have also added an option for English (US) and English (UK) within the user settings. Based on this setting your date (d-m-y or m-d-y) and time (AM/PM or 24h) formatting will be adjusted accordingly.
