What to do with the hardware during the winter period (outdoor growers)?

Recommended steps for outdoor growers on what to do with the Growficient hardware between growing seasons (winter period).

Note

The following is applicable for outdoor growers during the winter period.

Sensors

Follow the following steps:

  1. Remove the sensors from the container, trough. or slab.
  2. Place the foam blocks on the pins immediately after removing the sensor. This is to protect the sensor as well as employees. If you can't find the foam blocks, contact Growficient (support@growficient.com) to order them.
  3. Store the sensors in a dry place preferably at a temperature of around 20 degrees Celcius (the optimum temperature to preserve the battery).

Gateway

Although the enclosure is waterproof, we recommend to store the gateway at a dry and indoor location. This prevents the gateway against harsh weather and the impact of lightning strikes.

Placed on a pole or building

Follow these steps if the gateway is placed outdoors on a pole or building:

  1. Turn off the gateway by pulling out the power plug.
  2. Removing the gateway from the building or pole is recommended. Especially at locations with harsh winter conditions.
  3. Store the gateway at a dry and indoor location.

In a sea container

Follow these steps if the gateway is placed in a sea container:

  1. Turn off the gateway by pulling out the power plug.
  2. Remove the antenna cable from the gateway. This prevents any damage of a (neighbouring) lightning strike hitting the outdoor antenna.
