Graph tool: Viewing data

What can I see in the graphs? How to include or exclude data? How to view specific data from the graph? What are the different lines on the graph?

This article explains the contents of the graph and how to use it to view data. For getting to know the different settings and buttons of the graph, please see Graph settings.

What can I see on the graph?

Above is a graph of a location. In the red box, you can see the different measurements. They are (from left to right):

  • Water content
Relative water content of the substrate: 0% means no water in the substrate, 100% means full submersion
  • Dryout/Dryback
Drying of the substrate, relative to the last shot/watering: when irrigating, dryout drops to 0 and when irrigation stops, the dryout graph will show the amount of water leaving the substrate
  • EC
Electrical conductivity, translating to the amount of minerals in the substrate
  • Substrate temperature
Temperature measured with the pins in the substrate
  • Temperature of the environment
Atmospheric temperature, measured by a sensor inside the casing of the sensor (and therefore, sensitive to direct sunlight on the casing)

Units and axes

The axes and their units change in accordance to the measurements you have selected to view.

Lighting on the graph

The graph displays sunrise and sunset to help see when a plant is and isn't receiving light. This is visualized with grey and white areas in the graph background, and shown at the bottom of the graph. You can also calibrate this to represent artificial lighting. You can find more about this on the Indoor lighting settings page.

The lines on the graph

  • Green always represents the average
  • The key/legend of which color represents which compartment/section/placement is shown on the left, above the graph
  • You can deselect them by hovering your mouse over the title and unticking the box
  • Hovering your mouse over the name of the compartment/section/placement, will highlight it on the graph and make the other lines less visible, as shown below

  • When viewing two different measurements, one measurement will be shown by a solid line and the second measurement by a dotted line (see example of water content and dry out below)
  • You can only view two measurements at the same time; selecting a third will remove the first selection

Viewing specific values on the graph

Not only can you select to view just one day (from the entire history of the location), you can also view specific moments with 5-minute accuracy – just hover your mouse over the graph!

Here, the mouse is hovering in the middle of the graph, marked by the dots in each line. The box shows the time stamp and the exact measurements for that moment, as shown below.

Viewing data from a specific time

By default, the graph shows you the values of the past 3 days. You can easily change this to 1 day or 1 week with these buttons, or use the date picker to set a custom range for time.
